Cold Storage Refrigeration Installation and Commissioning
Installation and commissioning rely on agreed responsibilities, site readiness, records, controls, testing and training. This guide supports planning; it is not a dangerous-work instruction.

01
Confirm site and interface readiness
Before commissioning, the project team should verify that agreed works are complete: equipment placement, piping and electrical interfaces, drainage, access, controls, room readiness, safety interfaces, local approvals and the prerequisites named in the project scope. Each party should know what evidence or record is expected before the next activity proceeds.
This is a planning guide. It does not provide instructions for pressure systems, refrigerant handling, electrical work or other hazardous tasks. Those activities require competent personnel and applicable requirements.
02
Plan documentation and controls
Commissioning records can include the design basis, installed configuration, control points, alarm logic, testing records, known limitations, drawings, operating documents and training records. The actual content and responsibility should be agreed in the contract and project plan.
The operating team should understand what alarms mean, who responds, what service interfaces exist and which settings are controlled. A handover should not leave an operator with an unexplained system or an unassigned issue list.
03
Keep the scope honest
Local installation, permits, electrical connection, lifting, final testing, training and service may be assigned to different parties. A website-level description cannot determine those roles. The project responsibility matrix and signed scope remain the controlling documents.
| Area | Example readiness evidence | Responsibility to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Site works | Access, placement, drainage and utilities complete | Local contractor / project manager |
| System interfaces | Piping, controls and electrical connections verified | Defined installation party |
| Testing | Agreed records and test scope available | Commissioning responsibility |
| Controls | Points, alarms and access roles documented | Controls/operations parties |
| Handover | Documentation, training and open items recorded | Supplier and operator roles |
Questions to discuss
Frequently asked questions
Does this page replace a commissioning procedure?
No. It is a project-planning guide. Actual commissioning work must follow the applicable design, equipment documentation, safety requirements and qualified personnel procedures.
Who provides operator training?
Training scope must be written into the actual project responsibility matrix; it is not assumed from a general website description.
